How Does OLHC Help the Uninsured?
Our Lady of Hope Clinic is very proud to serve uninsured patients in Madison, Wisconsin and surrounding areas by offering free primary care. Read on to learn more about our deep commitment to serving the vulnerable in our community.
Our Lady of Hope Clinic allots over 55% of our appointment times to patients without health insurance. Five days a week, our clinic is open for walk-in appointments for individuals without health insurance. These appointments are free of charge.
To access these same-day appointments, uninsured patients must come to the clinic by 9 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday for a morning appointment or by 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to schedule an afternoon appointment. We ask that our recipient patients arrive at least ten minutes early--8:50 a.m. or 12:50 p.m.--for the best possible chance of getting on our provider’s schedule during any given shift. Although we do our best to treat everyone who walks through our doors, we occasionally have to ask our recipients to come back at a later time due to high patient volume.
At these appointments, the uninsured patients receive the full scope of primary care that we offer at the clinic.
They can receive comprehensive physicals and regular vitals measurements, including: height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation and body mass index.
Also during these appointments, patients can be seen for health maintenance and disease prevention. Routine eye and diabetes screening are among the many services we offer, as well as skin cancer surveillance. Patients can also receive testing for tuberculosis and have their risk for cardiac events assessed. Additionally, we offer counseling in nutrition and tobacco cessation.
For those without health insurance, impossible decisions like choosing between food and medicine for their families can plague the poor in our community. Potentially costly medical problems often get set aside for as long as possible as symptoms worsen. For that reason, we are very proud to offer diagnosis and treatment for acute medical problems to those who otherwise would have nowhere to go for relief.
Our physicians treat a wide range of medical issues, including: abdominal pain, dizziness, headaches, skin rashes, stomach flu, and tooth infection. We also offer splinting and casting of fractures.
We also offer treatment for ongoing medical problems. We help our patients manage chronic conditions, such as: diabetes, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and depression.
Our clinic provides fertility care and assistance through Natural Procreative Technology, or NaPro Tech. To learn more about this all-natural, scientific method of determining causes of infertility and menstrual cycle-related maladies, read: What is NaPro Technology?
Included in this free care are medical procedures and laboratory testing. Patients can be seen for issues such as: laceration repair, electrocardiograms, and removal of skin lesions and foreign bodies.
We also offer the following lab testing: blood glucose, mono spot test, pregnancy test, strep, and urinalysis. These are just some of the free health services that the uninsured receive when they visit Our Lady of Hope Clinic.
Our vital health services to the community are supported by member patients. For a small monthly fee, our member patients receive this same full scope of primary care. As a thank you for their support, these member patients also enjoy same or next-day appointments, extended appointment times to improve the physician patient relationship, and direct access to their personal physician via phone, text or email.
