Our Lady of Hope Clinic in Middleton Celebrates 20,000 Free Medical Appointments

In a world where healthcare can feel distant and costly, especially for the uninsured, Our Lady of Hope Clinic in Middleton, Wisconsin, stands as a powerful witness to the Catholic call to serve “the least of these.” This June of 2026, the clinic reached a profound milestone and is now joyfully announcing that it has provided more than 20,000 free medical appointments to uninsured patients since opening its doors in 2009!
The Vision To Bring Healing to the Madison Area
What began as a small, faith-driven response to a pressing need has blossomed, through the grace of Jesus Christ, into a vital ministry offering primary care, fertility and women’s health services, and unwavering dignity to thousands across Dane County and beyond through free medical care to the uninsured.

Dr. Mike Kloess founded Our Lady of Hope Clinic after years in urgent and emergency care, where he witnessed the consequences of limited access to primary care. Many patients arrived with serious conditions that could have been diagnosed or treated earlier, but they lacked insurance and an accessible source of ongoing care. Moved by the Holy Spirit and a deep commitment to the dignity of every human person, Dr. Mike established the clinic on three core principles: Direct Primary Care (DPC), free care for the uninsured, and pro-life medical practice rooted in the Catholic healthcare tradition.
The clinic operates on a sustainable DPC model where members pay a modest monthly fee for unlimited primary care visits, which helps subsidize free services for the uninsured. The clinic also provides pro-life fertility and women’s health care that seeks to identify and treat underlying causes of infertility, recurrent miscarriage, cycle disorders, and other health concerns while respecting the dignity of women, marriage, and human life.
Every encounter, whether with a physician, volunteer medical assistant, or support team, reflects Christ’s personal love. “They don’t simply serve ‘patients,’” notes one DPC member. “They serve ‘people,’ acting as a health resource, mentor, counselor, and guide.”
The Growth That Has Followed
Growth has accelerated dramatically in recent years. The first 10,000 free appointments took 12 years (2009–June 2021). After expanding into a larger facility on University Avenue in Middleton in 2022, and adding providers, the clinic delivered the next 10,000 free appointments in just five years. Annual free appointments are now approaching 3,000, a testament to generous donors, volunteers, and word-of-mouth referrals from grateful patients.

One such couple, Oscar and Georgina from Venezuela, recently shared their story. A friend recommended OLHC, and their experience has been transformative. “It has been a great blessing to have found you,” Oscar said. “We are very grateful for all the attention and the warmth we have received.” Georgina highlighted the relief of accessing necessary medications without stress, calling it “a great relief and a great blessing.” Both former catechists, they were especially moved by the clinic’s Catholic identity. “It surprised me a lot,” Georgina shared. “A Catholic clinic… Wow, this must have something special.” The couple now recommends the clinic widely and sees it as a bridge to peace and family stability in a challenging healthcare landscape.
Such testimonies echo throughout the clinic’s history. Another patient shared: “Dr. Mike, you and Father Miguel are truly my angels. I can never express enough how grateful I am to the Lord for bringing you both into my life when I had lost all hope. Today, I am blessed with two healthy, beautiful babies, and I owe it all to the NaPro model and Our Lady of Hope.”
The journey to 20,000 appointments has been one of profound blessings, but the mission is far from complete. As Our Lady of Hope Clinic continues to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, the clinic invites the broader Catholic community to join in this vital work. Your generosity ensures that thousands more will encounter Christ’s mercy through accessible, dignified, faith-filled care.
